The Old Providence Church is a historic stone church located in Spottswood, Virginia. The original log church, known as the South Mountain Meeting House, was built on this site in 1743. The current stone church was built in 1859 and was not only used as a place of worship, and a school prior to the Civil War. After the Civil War the Church was used as a local high school until the early part of the 20th Century. The nearby cemetery is protected by a stone wall and is the final resting place of several veterans of the American Revolutionary War. Also resting in the cemetery are Robert and Mary Ann McCormick, who are the parents of Cyrus Hall McCormick, who invented the first mechanical reaper. Regular services are no longer held in this building.
