It's an anglers paradise, a waterfowl hunters dream, and a birdwatchers bounty.
Established in 1924 the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge encompasses 240,000 acres of Mississippi River floodplain in a continuous stretch of 261 river miles from Wabasha, Minn. to Rock Island, Ill.
The refuge is a national scenic treasure complete with river, backwaters, islands and forests framed by 500 foot high bluffs. The Great River Road National Scenic Byway hugs the refuge on each side.
