The Evanston Courthouse and Main Post Office in Evanston, Wyoming was built in 1905 as part of a facilities improvement program by the United States Post Office Department. It is a monumental three story building of dressed sandstone on a raised granite base. It is a well-preserved example of a combined post office and federal courthouse
in the Beaux-Arts tradition of the early 1900s. This Neo-classical building displays a quality of design and craftsmanship that marks the building as one of the finest examples of its type in the entire state. This quality, coupled with the scale of the building, places it as the most prominent structure in the downtown area. The building is the city's first federal building and was constructed during the city's most significant growth period.
The fallout shelter is located on the northeast side of the building, which is functionally the rear of the building. It must have been retro-fit in the basement, as I don't think they were worried about fallout shelters in 1905.
Capacity of shelter: 265
