Loads of these "statues" are to be found around the Surrey Hills "Area of Outstanding Beauty".

Some parts of the Hills are classed as AGLV or Areas of Great Landscape Value, a term I have never come accross before.

They are used as visual markers to let you know you are entering or leaving this truly outstanding area. Two types can be found, taller specimens like this one, up to 6m in height and shorter ones approximately 2m high.

The website HERE gives more details (it will open in a new window).

Many of them have Geocaches nearby (this one has). The sculptor was Walter Bailey and his website can be found HERE gives more details about the artist (it will open in a new window).
