Jesse Owens stunned the world, and Nazi Germany, in the 1936 Olympics when he, a black man, beat the Germans in numerous track and field events. He won four gold medals: 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and as part of the 4x100 meter relay team. He was the most successful athlete in those Olympics.
