The first Greek immigrants arrived in San Joaquin County, California as early as 1870. Around the turn of the century, these immigrants formed a first religious organization, called ADELFOTIS (Hellenic Mutual Society or Brotherhood), which recorded its first baptism on May 18, 1908. By the 1920’s there were a number of families established in Stockton and the parish of St. Basil was officially recognized as a religious organization by the State of California on December 20, 1929 and the first Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton opened at Christmas 1930.

The current church is the third building. Construction began on February 1, 1970, and the official Door Opening (Thiranexia) took place on, January 2, 1971.
