In the mid-1980's, Buffalo was hoping to land an expansion major league baseball team. With this in mind, they needed a new ballpark to help their cause. In 1988, the $40 million Pilot Field opened to rave reviews and started the new ballpark craze across the country. It was designed by HOK Sport (the same firm that designed Camden Yards a few years later in Baltimore) with the ability to be expanded by another 20,000 seats by adding a 3rd level if an expansion team was awarded. A major league team never came, so the Bisons remained in the now-defunct American Associaion at the AAA level. In 1995, the stadium was renamed North AmeriCare Park, and a new affiliation began with the Cleveland Indians. The start of the 1998 season saw the Bisons move to the North Division of the AAA International League. Then in 1999, the stadium was again renamed to Dunn Tire Park. At the conclusion of the 2008 season, Dunn Tire's naming rights were up. A new deal was reached with Coca-Cola and the stadium was renamed for the fourth time to Coca-Cola Field. Also at this time, the team reached a new player development agreement with the New York Mets.
Over the years, attendance has declined and the outfield bleachers were removed and replaced with a party deck and grass berm. Pettibone's Grill is located on the club level on the first base side, and the lower and upper concourses feature many different types of food.
The field dimensions are 325' down the lines, and 404' to straightaway center field.
