This monument to the 22nd Michigan Infantry is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.

Description:
A granite commemorative marker with a bronze relief plaque depicting a Civil War battle scene. Centered above the plaque on the arched top is the State of Michigan seal. A bronze plaque on the rear of the monument describes the actions of the Twenty-Second Michigan Regiment. The marker is mounted upon a three-block base of unfinished granite.

A battle between Confederate and Union forces is depicted. The Union forces are on the right; the flag barrier holds the US Flag in his right hand a fires a revolver with his left. Other Union troops move forward, bayonets fixed, while other lie on the ground. The Confederate troops are on the left, one solders stands with is rifle at waist level and pointed upwards, another fires from behind a tree while in the background other confederate soldiers hold their rifles by the barrel and above their heads to use as a club. The Confederate Battle flag can also be seen.

Whitaker’s Brigade, Steedman’s Division, Granger’s Corps.
This monument marks the position of the Regiment performed
it's most important service, Sept. 19th, 1863.

Engage 455, killed 32, wounded 96, missing 261, total loss 389.
On the 19th the Regiment marched from Rossville joining the
Brigade near McAfee’s church, from there it moved about noon
of the 20th towards this position. After three hours desperate combat
having exhausted their ammunition, they charged overwhelming numbers,
until overcome.

In the Chattanooga campaign it performed important engineering service,
