Smokey stands near a fire tower owned by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources near Birchdale, Minnesota. He faces State Highway 11, which runs along the Rainy River, and is best seen by travelers going east.
Smokey's colors are still vivid, but he is peeling along the edges, and has gashes in several places. The sign on which he stands is also worn in spots.
No particular forest is named. This Smokey Bear is near Franz Jevne State Park, though.
When I saw Smokey, he was asking people to not litter.
