One of the popular and more macabre of attractions in Virginia is the grave for Stonewall Jackson's arm which is located off Rt. 20 in Locust Grove.
On May 2, 1863 during the Battle of Chancellorsville, Gen. Jackson was shot in his arm by friendly fire while patroling down a road. He was taken to a field hospital at Wilderness Tavern where his arm was amputated. Rev. B. T. Lacy, Jackson's chaplain, scooped up the arm from a pile of amputated limbs and took it to his brother's home which was nearby and buried it in the family cemetery. Today, the Arm Of Stonewall Jackson is the only marker in the small cemetery.
Another interesting attraction is the location where Jackson was wounded. Both sites are open dawn to dusk.
