At the time of writing, The Norman King has been gutted by fire, but the sign still stands. The future of the pub is uncertain.

The Norman King was one of the area's oldest buildings and sported a thatched roof which may have been partly responsible for it's downfall.

The pub was probably names after Henry I (1069 – 1135) since it was built on the site of an old palace built by him. Henry was the fourth son of William I.
