Jefferson City is Missouri's capital city and also the county
seat for Cole County. Its old sheriff's office and county jail
were associated with the nearby Cole County Courthouse. The
jail has been identified as overcrowded and a hazard to public
safety since the 1980s.
A new 32 million dollar sheriff's office/jail complex will
be completed and dedicated in mid-July 2011. It will support the needs
of not only the county, but also the new federal courthouse
in Jefferson City that is also nearing completion.
The new multi-level complex extends from High Street, where the sheriff's office and administrative staff will be located, down the Adams Street hill to McCarty Street, where the jail facilities
are located. The primary modern meaning for a sally port is a secure, controlled entryway to bring prisoners to or from the jail. At the new facility, transporting vechiles have a drive-thru access into the building from Adams Street to the sally port to the Cole County
Jail. This will be a vast improvement over the current jail's access to its sally port. A state of the art video court room is also being installed so inmates won't even have to leave for court.

Visit Instructions:
To log a visit, you must post a photo of you in front of the building described, with your GPS in the photo. No drive by photos.
I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
