The beautiful relief art on the Dominguez Escalante Expedition & Utah History Monument depicts Father Escalante with a group of frontier men and Indians as they view the Strawberry Valley. A young Indian stands at Father Escalante's right side while an older Indian and frontiers man are on a saddled horse behind them. Additional men and horses along with an old dead tree are in the background. The relief is some what shallow making it a low relief. Also on the monument is a history plaque about the expedition into the valley.
The monument was placed by the Bureau of Reclamation in observannce of the American Bicentennial - 1976
To see this monument with the relief art take US Highway 40 east from Heber City, 23 miles to the Strawberry marina. Go south and stop at the Strawberry Visitor center. The monument is adjacent to the parking area next to the visitors center.
