This monument to the 19th Ohio Infantry Regiment is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.

A commemorative marker with crossed muskets with a belts going around them. The muskets are below a pair of crossed bayonets. On each side of the muskets are cartridge boxes whose straps pass behind the muskets and go around the bayonets. Two canteens are located below the muskets. The carving is in high relief on the front. Backpacks with a bed roll are located on each side of the monument. On the rear is a plaque describing the activities of the 19th Ohio during the battle. The marker is topped with a rough, pyramidal cap and mounted upon a short, rock-faced base.

Text on the front of the monument:

19th Ohio Infantry
Gen’l. Samuel Beatty’s Brigade
Van Cleve’s Division
21st Army Corps.

Text on the rear of the monument:

This regiment, Lt. Col Henry D. Stratton commanding, held this position from 2:00 P.M. until 4:30 P.M. September 19, 1863. During that time it assisted in capturing a six gun battery and took twenty prisoners. It was then forced to retire across the Rossville Road where it reformed on the ridge on the west side of the road. After a brief contest there, it was again forced to retire, and reformed on the ridge near the Crawfish Springs Road.

Sept. 20th, it was in reserve and was broken about 12:00 M. by the retirement of the troops in its front. It was not rallied again as a regiment until evening. It partially rallied however, in squads, which with fragments of other regiments remained fighting until dark.

Loss, Killed 7: Wounded 60: Captured or Missing 23; Total 90.

DIFFERENCES NOTED BETWEEN THE INVENTORY LISTING AND YOUR OBSERVATIONS AND RESEARCH:
"and a canteen", there are two canteens. "On the rear is a State of Ohio seal" - the rear of the monument contains a narrative of the battle. I can not tell from my photos, but I think the seal is on each side of the monument. There are two backpack with bedrolls on each side of the monument.
