This campus was originally a Muscogee (Creek) Nation orphanage in 1892. During World War II, it became a military hospital and then, in 1946, a vocational and technical school was established to train returning war veterans and prepare them to re-enter the workforce.
A bronze plaque at this site tells the story: "The Chapel Bell symbolizes OSU - Okmulgee's history. Originally placed atop the chapel that was built on these grounds in 1941, this bell has comforted WWII's armies wounded, announced wedding ceremonies, assembled religious services, and congratulated numerous graduates." The bell was dedicated June 4, 1998.
