This cannon was one of 4 that were installed in Barmouth in the time of the Napolenic wars with France. At this time the UK was worried about invasion from France and many defences were built all along the coasts.

This cannon has actually been raised from the waters of Barmouth harbour and placed here on permanent display.

The cannon would probably have been installed sometime between 1797 and 1815.
