Der Fernsteinsee ist ein kleiner Bergsee am Fernpass im Gemeindegebiet von Nassereith in Tirol. Er liegt auf 934 Meter Höhe. Der See befindet sich im Privatbesitz und ist mit seinen nördlich davon gelegenen Nachbarn Samerangersee und Schanzlsee ein beliebtes Gewässer für Sporttaucher. Der See ist 550 Meter lang und bis zu 540 Meter breit, und weist im Südosten und im Nordosten Tiefen bis maximal 17 Metern auf. Die Gesamtfläche des Sees beträgt 182.222 m². Davon entfallen 140.824 m² auf die Wasserfläche und 41.398 m² auf die Insel.[1]

Das zu einem Hotel umgebaute Schloss Fernstein liegt an westlichen Ufer des Sees an der Fernpassstraße (B 179). Im Fernsteinsee auf einer von einem Tomahügel gebildeten Insel steht die Ruine des Jagdschlosses Sigmundsburg, dessen Baubeginn vor 1462 datiert ist.

The Fernsteinsee is a small mountain lake at the Fern Pass in the municipality of Nassereith in Tirol. It is located at 934 meters altitude. The lake is privately owned and with its neighbors north of it Samerangersee Schanzlsee and a popular water for divers. The lake is 550 meters long and up to 540 meters wide, and has, in the southeast and northeast depths of up to 17 meters. The total area of the lake is 182 222 m². Of these, 140 824 m² is on the water surface and 41,398 square feet on the island [1].

This converted to a hotel situated on Castle Fernstein western shore of the lake on the main mountain road (B179). The dates on a Fernsteinsee formed by a Tomahügel island is the ruin of the hunting lodge Sigmund castle, whose construction is before 1462.
