The McComas Incident marker is located along New Mexico highway 90 South of Tyrone, N.M. at the junction with Gold Canyon Rd.

The marker was originally set in 1935 by the State of New Mexico with the title of McComas Massacre. New Mexico redid their Historical Markers by 1984 and the information on the marker was changed to it current format. McComas Incident In March 1883 Judge and Mrs. H. C. McComas were killed in this vicinity by a group of Chiricahua Apaches led by Chatto. An extensive man hunt failed to rescue their six - year - old son, who had been taken captive. This, incident was part of a violent outbeak towards the end of the Apache Wars. There is ample parking near the site.
