Long Description:The newer, oblong rectangular signs have replaced the older concrete markers, most of which have made their way into private collections. If traveling west on the Lincoln Highway, you will be on York Street as you approach the main circle called Lincoln Square. Go half way around and now the Lincoln Highway is called Chambersburg Road. Two hundred sixty feet on the left or south side is the sign, in front of a Adams County National Bank. Parking is available on the side of the road for a quarter.
This is Civil War town to be sure but they also bill themselves as a Lincoln Highway town as well as evident by all the markers. These oblong, rectangular markers have been popping up all over the place in PA. This one has the tell tale red and blue stripe over a white field. A gold portrait of a profiled Lincoln circumscribed in a circle is reminiscent of the penny. The word Lincoln Highway are written at the bottom of the sign. The stake is painted red and blue, and jammed into the sidewalk right next to the road.
