The plaque, adjacent to the gun, reads:

"On the base ring this gun shows the makers name 'F.M. Eardley-Wilmot'.

On the first reinforce a cypher of Queen Victoria with the words 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'.

This translates as 'GOD AND MY RIGHTS' and was a motto of the British Monarch referring to their divine right to govern.

On the right kand trunnion 'B2-XLI' and on the left hand trunnion the date '1857'.

On the chase a cypher has the words 'TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO', which translates as "THREE JOINED IN ONE" referring to the 3 countries that formed the UK."
