This replica of W. Granville Hastings’ statue of Abraham Lincoln stands on the lawn of the Greene County Court House in Jefferson. It was a gift from E.B. Wilson to Greene County and the Lincoln Highway, erected in 1918. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 and holds a plaque with the following quote from our 16th President:
“With malace towards none,
With charity for all,
With firmness in the right,
As God gives us to see the right,
Let us strive on to finish
The work we are in;
To care for him
Who shall have borne the battle,
And for his widow and orphan;
To bind up the nation’s wounds;
To do all which may achieve and cherish
A just and lasting peace among
Ourselves and with all nations”
--Lincoln
