This bridge was named for prominent Correctionville citizen and bridge-builder Russell A. Dixon. It is located just north of town on Co. Hwy L 36.
The Person
As a young man Russ Dixon moved from his home in West Plains, Missouri to Correctionville, IA where he had worked with his brother for several summers. He and Ellis purchased the Moville Construction Company which then became the Dixon Brothers Construction Company, building bridges and culverts throughout northwestern Iowa. When Russ and Ellis retired, the business was sold to Russ’s two sons.
The Bridge
The original bridge over the Little Sioux River was built in 1936 and was located to the west of the bridge that is used today. The new bridge, constructed by Dixon Construction Company was completed in 2007, and the old bridge was torn down. The current bridge now bears Russ Dixon’s name as a tribute to his legacy as a bridge builder and to his many contributions to his community. Although he passed away before the bridge was completed, he was able to see it during the construction process.
