The church in the village of Vallica has a sundial on the south facing facade. This is a morning sundial as the wall declines a bit east. This sundial is a simple but elegant. The hour lines are not numbered. When we visit at 4 pm daylight savings time on 26 April 2011, the dial read solar time as 2:30, the sun was just leaving the dial face.

The church is dedicated to the nativity of the Virgin Mary. Vallicia is an attractive mountain village at the end of a narrow twisting single lane road. At the pass, Bocca a Croce 1138m, turn left off D963 onto the narrow road and find Vallicia at about 3 km along. The views of the mountains across the valley were quite impressive. The back sides of Monte Grosso (1938 m). Monte Padro (2395) and Monte Cinto (2706 m) were still snow covered.

After exploring the village and finding the church and sundial, we returned to the pass and went on to Olmi-Cappella. There we found a small old sundial on the south wall of the chapel beside the main church. The gnomon was in place but incorrect. Hour lines were marked but not numbered.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
