An intelligence agent is being trailed by the opposition and decides to hide the despatch he’s carrying in the treasure box of a car rally that is being held by Sir George Benstead. The agent is killed but manages to send to Steed an invite to the car rally before he dies. Steed and Mrs Peel take part in the rally as do opposition agents. A large amount of skulduggery occurs on the rally before Steed and Emma finally secure the treasure.
The first stop on the treasure hunt is at a pub in the village of Mithering. The actual pub used is the Three Horseshoes, Letchmore Heath.
