In downtown Okmulgee, in the 200 block of W. 6th Street, a small area that once held a building or two, has been set up as a little park area for the residents to enjoy. It is named Jim R. Newport Memorial Park. A brick and iron fence wall separates the park from the street, with a tall arched brick entry. Murals are painted on the adjoining wall to the west, on a wall east across the alley, and on the back of a business just to the south of the park.

On the east side of this area is a semi-circular patio made of donated bricks, which honor those who have funded the park. Two benches are provided for those who want to sit and enjoy the beauty of the area.
