In 1869, seven years after founding Sokol in Prague, a Sokol unit in Rakovník was established. It covered the physical activities and the activity of volunteer firemen.
In 1886, the foundation for building a Sokol house was established, and the "Sokolovna" was opened on June 13th, 1914 - just before the WW I has started and the Sokol was banned during the wartime.
In 1918, after proclaiming the independence of Czechoslovakia, Sokol restarted its activity, and in 1929 it bought additional property to build the athletic fields.
The Sokol association was banned again during WW II and once again in 1955 by the communist regime. The property became an ownership of Lokomotiva Rakovník, a sport club of railway employees.
After restoration of Sokol in 1990 and a long lawsuit, the Rakovník Sokol unit gained a right of use of the gym in 1992. In 1997, Lokomotiva Rakovník transferred the ownership to the Town of Rakovník and in 2005 the town and Sokol signed a contract about use of the gym, which statisfied the Sokol needs.
The Rakovník Sokol unit currently has about 300 members. Its activities include general gymnastics for children and women, table tennis, badminton, dance and skateboarding.
