The dam was built in 1964-1969. Its volume is 61.8 million m3. It supplies drinking water Ostrava agglomeration and area of Frydek-Mistek.
The dam flooded the center of the village Stare Hamry and railway Ostravice - Bila.


Prehrada byla postavena v letech 1964-1969. Objem nadrze je 61,8 mil. m3. Zasobuje pitnou vodou ostravskou aglomeraci a oblast Frydecko-Mistecka.
Centrum Starych Hamer se nyni nachazi na dne prehrady. Vystavbou prehrady byla prerusena zeleznicni doprava mezi Ostravici a Bilou.
