Jim R. Newport Memorial Park is located on West Sixth Street, just west of the square with the Creek Nation Council House. This is a small park area, created where former buildings have been razed. The park has an iron fencing with brick and stone base, and is entered through a tall brick archway. Plaques on either side show the name of the park, and the names of donors and contributors.

Concrete walkways and grass areas lead you into the park, with benches for seating. A mural faces the park on the east and west, and another in the alley to the south. Donated pavers show the contributors to the area. A small fountain decorates the south end. This is just a small area, but a pleasant respite in the downtown area.

There is no indication of who Jim R. Newport was, but apparently he was well respected in this city. There was a Jim R. Newport, a State Representative, but we could not confirm if this was the same individual.
