Fairbourne is a small seaside resort with a 2 mile long beach. This the main line station on the Cambrian Coast Line.

There is also a narrow gauge heritage line in the same hamlet, and many people use this as a connecting station.

The Cambrian Coast Line goes from Pwellhi in Wales to Shrewsbury in England and is part of the national network. Although it is mainly a single track line it is standard gauge and carries normal trains.
The station and trains are managed by Arriva Trains Wales.

This station provides access to walking paths along the coast that connects to a 900 yard long (820 metre) mainly wooden railway bridge built in 1867. The bridge crosses the estuary of the River Mawdach. Trains from this station pass over this bridge to get to the much larger seaside resort of Barmouth. However the rail bridge also has a pedestrian bridge attached that many people use to do the crossing on foot.

In the past the town was a popular resort, but declined from the 1970’s as more people took holidays abroad. The state of the station reflects the decline in the town.

The station has one platform and is managed by Aviva Trains Wales.
