A uniformed Civil War soldier stands loading his rifle, his left foot is slightly forward of his right. He holds the rifle, now missing, with his left hand at waist level. His upraised right hand originally held a ramrod, now missing. The soldier has a moustache and wears a brimmed hat, and has a pouch on his right hip, the letters US appear on the pouch and on his belt buckle. The soldier is mounted upon a sloping base decorated with a star on the top of each face. On one side of the base is a medallion with the State of Wisconsin seal. The bottom tier of the base is rough-edged.
