"Resourceful engineering design produced the nation's largest commercial building to achieve net-zero annual energy use. Occupants of the new 220,000-square-foot research facility consume energy generated only by its renewable power sources. Design advancements include a 1.6-megawatt solar panel array, an underground labyrinth thermal storage system that captures and reintroduces recovered heat and a radiant heating and cooling system that uses water to adjust the temperature. The building consumes 50 percent less energy than similar buildings and is a prototype for the future of large-scale, net-zero buildings."
