Principal
term of the documentation is the announcement of the 1st
sausage-mention demonstrable up to now on the 20th January 1404 in an
account of the Johann von Siebeleben, provost of the former
Walpurgisklosters (a monastery) lifted in the Reformation of Arnstadt.
In this document it's said, that they had spent "1 gr vor darme czu
brotwurstin" (1 groschen for sausage bowels). One of the association
founders, archivist Peter Unger, had found this document in the
Thuringian state archive to Rudolstadt on the 13th July, 2000. This
discovery inspired the later association founders to collect
information all around the Thuringian traditional court and to do
accessibly to the general public.
In November, 2008 the museum received the Thuringian marketing price of
tourism endowed with 8,000 euros from the Thuringian minister for
economy and work.
The Friends of Thuringian Bratwurst i.s. has about 150 members, which
also include some members from overseas (China, USA, Australia). The
society arranges since 2006 the annual Bratwurstiade games around the
sausage. The restaurant located in the city "Partyscheune" organized
group tours, family events and individual sausage-tasting.
If
you are in Holzhausen, I can only recommend eating such a sausage and a
visit to the site.
