This marker, set approximately 3 miles south of the Indiana-Michigan State Line, gives a brief history and outline of the Indiana Northern boundary, as set in 1817 and finalized in 1837 when Michigan achieved statehood.
The original northern boundary of the Indiana Territory was set by the southern tip of Lake Michigan, however, it was moved to ten miles north of the southern tip of the lake to give the state of Indiana direct access to the lake.
