The memorial is situated in a corner of the Angle American playing fields, adjacent to the Bridge End Gardens in Saffron Walden. The memorial is separated from the playing fields by a circular beech hedge. Within the circular beech hedge there is brick memorial bearing 26 white stone plaques bearing the names of the dead. At the centre of the memorial is a plaque that reads

OF THE 65^TH FIGHTER WING OF THE

UNITED STATES ARMY AIR FORCE

AND THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE

BOROUGH OF SAFFRON WALDEN

THE DEFENCE OF FREEDOM

1939-1945

The memorial was dedicated in 1955.
