This monument to the 101st Ohio Infantry is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.

101st Ohio Infantry
2nd Brigade, 1st Division
20th Army Corps
Text on the rear of the monument:
This regiment, Lt. Col. John Messer commanding, became engaged about 2:30 P.M. Sept. 19th, 1863. The engagement continued until after 5:00 P.M. with varying fortune, our lines alternately receding and advancing.
Sept. 20th, 1863, it became engaged about 11:00 A.M. but after firing half a dozen rounds was flanked by the break occasioned by the movement of Wood’s division to the left, and was broken and compelled to retreat.
Loss: Killed 13: Wounded 83: Captured or missing 51.
