It's a long way up from the city of Lindos to the top of the Acropolis. You can hire a donkey and guide to take you along a parallel trail part way up; but to get the Acropolis itself you cannot avoid the steps.
The stairway to the Acropolis is infamous. Lots of unevenly spaced steep steps, no guardrail, sometimes there are steep drop-offs, very slippery when wet, really hot when it is sunny. Yet throngs of people come to Rhodes and visit Lindos to make the climb and view the ruins of the Acropolis, the city, and the surrounding area.
The stairway takes you to the Castle of the Knights of St John from their there are a few more steps to get to the Temple of Athena at the top. The climb to the Acropolis about 350 ft. first along trails then the steps. The stairway and castle were built by the Knights between 1421 and 1503.
