This was the starting point for a sponsored walk by a group of over one thousand teenagers in 1966, they raised $4450. Each one was sponsored by one or more people for 10cents for each of the 11 miles for the journey to Browns Bay. The money was used to improve facilities in the park.

During the summer months this park is a hive of activity where many young people congregate to do a variety of activities from swimming in the river to playing ball or just relaxing in the sunshine. There is also regular scuba diving when the weather permits.
