This post is a state line boundary marker, located at the Methuen, MA, and Salem, NH border. It is the 114th marker post east from the NH southwest corner, set along the MA/NH border. It is at the east side of Cross Street, just north of a junction with Hampshire Road, and to the west of the southbound lanes of Interstate Route 93.

The post is granite, 14 inches square and stands about 4 feet above ground level. The top is flat, with a groove cut across it, denoting the actual border line. There is a dressed face on the north side of the post, with the inscription -S NH 1890-, representing the Salem, NH side, and a dressed face on the south side, with the inscription -M MASS 1890-, for the Methuen, MA side.

To the southeast of the border post, about 6 feet away on the boundary line, there is a small 5-inch square granite post, about 1-foot tall, with a dressed flat top surface bearing the inscription -EC-, with a brass nail set in lead at the center of the top between the letters. The nail could possibly be a reference mark or other survey point relative to the large border post. At this time, the inscription -EC- is unknown to me.
