"Jicín - the town of fairy tales" is a traditional cultural festival regularly held in September for more than 20 years. During this one-week festival enjoyed by children and adults alike fairy tales and fairies take control over the town of Jicín.
Since 2010 the statue of good fairy tale dragon is installed near centre of the town. More than 2 meters high, steel statue was made by Jirí Kmošek, student of the Secondary School of Applied Arts and the College of Craft in Trutnov (Artistic Smithy), who won the competition organized by town's authorities.
Dragons appear in many fairytales. Some fairytales are old, retelling stories from mythology. Others are newer creations aimed at entertaining children, but still keeping a mythological flavour to the stories.
