The 125th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI) Regiment Monument is located on the ridge line at Snodgrass Field off of Vittetoe Rd, in the Chickamauga National Battlefield, Ft Oglethorpe, GA.

Battle scene:
In the foreground there are several wounded and dead Soldiers, one of which is the drummer boy, his left hand lies across the drum. In the middle ground, the flag barrier has been shot, his cap lies at his feet, is right hand is pressed to his wounded right side. A second Soldier, to his left, is taking the flag from him. To his right is a Soldier holding his rifle, to the right of this Soldier, an officer strands next to a tree, with his sword in his right hand and raised above his head, Other Soldier can be seen in the background.

From SIRIS:
A granite commemorative marker topped with a mountain lion is adorned on the front with a bronze medallion of Colonel Emerson Opdycke and a bronze relief depicting a Civil War battle scene. On the back of the marker is the State of Ohio seal. The marker is set upon a rectangular base with rough edge.

The name of the Regiment, 125th O.V.I. appears on the front and the rear of the marker, just below the Mountain lion. On the front of the monument, below the bronze medallion of Colonel Emerson Opdycke is his name. The bottom of the monument has three tiers. The top tier says, Harker’s Brig. Wood’s Div. The middle tier says 21st Army Corps.

Text on rear of the monument:
Sept. 1863, from 4:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. this regiment was severely engaged about 600 yards north of Viniard’s, and about 200 yards east the road, capturing one officer and nine men.

Sept. 20, about 11:30 A.M. formed for battle about 100 yards south of this ridge, and it advanced to the north and of Dyer’s field where it met and engaged the enemy and resisted his further advance from 12:00 M. to 1:00 P.M. when it was forced to retire. It reached this position about 1:30 P.M. and occupied it until about 7:00 P.M. when it was ordered to Rossville. From 1:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. it assisted in repelling all assaults on this part of the line.

Went into action with 16 officers: 298 men aggregate 314.
Loss, killed 17: wounded 83: missing 5: aggregate 105.
