The text of the marker reads:
"N 37 Andrews Geyser - Built ca. 1885 to mark railroad gateway to the Blue Ridge Mts. Restored in 1911 & 1975. Named for A.B. Andrews of Raleigh. Located 2.1 miles north. Division of Archives and History. 1976."

This man-mage geyser was positioned next to Mill Creek and was built in 1879 by the railroad. It became a very popular tourist attraction as railroad passengers took the zig-zag nine miles of train track and hand hewen tunnels that peaked at the top of the Swannanoa Gap between Old Fort and Ashville, N.C.

The old Round Knob Hotel was built nearby and after it burned to the ground the geysers fate was in question. Popular public opnion saved the geyser from destruction and today it is a public park owned and maintained by the town of Old Fort.
