Visible on the south side of Interstate 40 as you travel through the Oklahoma City area, you are first struck by the terrific mural of the Oklahoma flag, painted on the side of a grain elevator. As you look closer you see that this is a climbing gym.
Rocktown Gym has been established since 2007 and has facilities for all ability levels. It has routes up to 145 ft., with a roof route at 90 ft. There is a full-on pocket route, and an 80 ft. crack offering hands to fingers climbing. There are lead routes for "hot dogs" and basic routes for the novice.
Climbing routes both indoor and outdoor are available, and in the Winter, an outdoor route is artificially frozen to provide an excellent ice climbing challenge. The facility offers lockers, showers, classes and rental gear.
The gym is owned by Touchstone Youth Project and Gibson Endeavors. Touchstone is a non-profit organization which serves disadvantaged youth by offering adventure-based education, mentoring and life skills training. They offer after-school activities.
