A town from 1882-1969. Named for nearby pond which gives a golden reflection from the sunrays. It was originally two settlements, Fungo and Golden Pond, later becomingone. Twice destroyed by fire and rebuilt, 1898 and 1936. The town prospered from abundant natural resources in the area, the rich valley soils, the timbered hills, cool springs, iron ore, wild life.
