A truly unique and historic chimney can be seen on the preserved Rye House Gatehouse. Dating back to the medieval period (1443) it is one of the first brick-built buildings in the country.

Originally there were five chimneys, all carved by hand making them decorative as well as practical. Rye House Gatehouse is open by arrangement including the roof space allowing visitors to see the chimney close-up to appreciate the design.
