This small church is located in a working class neighborhood of Denver known as Globeville. In September of 1898, the parish was incorporated as the "Greek Catholic Church, Transfiguration of Christ". Construction of the Church began in September 1898 and its completion in 1904.
The church later became known as Croatian Orthodox- causing a split with the previously affiliated Roman Catholic Church. When the orthodox priest of the parish died in 1903, The Roman Catholic Bishop surreptitiously sent a priest to pose as an Eastern Rite priest- but the newcomer was discovered to be secretly delivering the liturgy in the Latin Rite. These acts caused the Orthodox Church to seek entrance into the Russian Orthodox Church and the request was granted. Bishop Tikhon (later Saint Tikhon) who was the Russian Bishop for all of the American churches consecrated the church in 1905. In 1916, there was another attempt by the Roman Catholic Church to take over this church!
