The park is located on Broadway Avenue behind the Centennial Youth Arena, saw a large crowd of furry, four-legged supporters and their owners come by Saturday morning to check things out.

The 1.25 acres of city-owned land designated for the park includes a fenced in area with mulched wood chips, grass, benches, shaded forest areas, a dog watering station, a supply shed and lots of room for canines to run and play.

As well PJ's Pets, one of the park's largest contributors, gave $5,000 to help create the puppy area named Barkville Puppy Park.

Of course, there are rules that must be followed at the park. Dogs have to be vaccinated and licensed, and must be on a leash when entering and exiting the fenced-off area. Owners must carry a leash and stay in the park with their dog, and owners must clean up after their own dogs.

No pit bull or pit bull cross dogs or aggressive dogs are allowed in the park, as well as no dogs in heat or coming into heat. Puppies under six months must use the puppy park, and there is a maximum of two dogs per handler allowed. Lastly, there is no smoking and no glass containers allowed in the park, and children must always be supervised by an adult.

Besides PJ's Pets, organizations who played a large part in the creation of the park included the Rotary Club of Brockville and the Thousand Islands, the Brockville Community Foundation and Thomas Fuller Construction, as well as several other businesses and individuals who donated supplies, time and labour to complete Brockville's first-ever off-leash dog park.

So if you're in the area geocaching (or not) and want to give yourself a break and your dog some fun, stop by the Rotary Off Leash Dog Park.

Cheers
