The building hosting the museum is the "Vendue House" which was the site of local slave auctions 200 years ago. Thus the name of the building, "vendu" is the French word for "sold."
While there are few artifacts such as tools of punishment or incarceration, the museum is very informative. Many documents tell the stories of the changed economy in The Bahamas after emancipation. The museum has also recreated the interior of a slave ship.
With such a reasonable cost for admission, your visit is well worthwhile. There is no tour guide so your visit to the museum can be undertaken at your chosen pace. This small museum is a good escape from the sun or the rain.
Theme: As noted in the name, the theme of the museum is the history of slavery, abolition and emancipation (which was in 1834) in The Bahamas.
