"World's Largest Crab" is the claim. Even if it isn't the record holder, it is impressive in size and uniqueness, certainly causing us to stop for further sightseeing and ultimately, gorging on the buffet.

9597 N. Kings Hwy., Myrtle Beach, SC

Advertizing works! While vacationing in Myrtle Beach, we drove by "resturant row" (AKA N. Kings Highway) and were treated to several seafood buffet resturants that had nautical themed decorations on the outside. But it was the Giant Grab Buffet that took the proverbial cake. This resturant serves as a perch for a steel and fiber, 4.5 ton, 25' tall, 34' wide crab named Tommy.

According to the placemats, the installation of Tommy on his precarious nest above the entrance required two cranes and a cadre of technicians to accomplish.

No admission required to look at the crab or the nautical collections outside. There is a buffet ($26 adult) boasting 170 items. The assortment and quality was excellent. Service was average to above average depending on the wait staff.

The experience.... that is the important part. The kids had fun exploring the visuals of the resturant. And for us adults, it was reminiscent of Americana icons.

If visiting Myrtle Beach, this should definitely be added to your itenerary even if only to take in the sights of Tommy and the other Nautical decor. You can also embibe at the adjacent bar or partake in a great buffet experience.

Note; if dining, make sure and pick up a coupon from one of the many free booklets found at most area businesses. Hours adjust with season.
