Coon Rapids is proud of its history, part of which revolves around the hybridization of seed corn. The terra cotta relief sculptures on these lighted trail markers flanking the road into town portray the images of Roswell Garst (founder of one of the largest producers of hybrid seed corn) and Charlie Thomas, the agricultural industry upon which this town was built, and the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad, an instrumental part of Coon Rapids’ connection with the rest of the country. This is part of the Hybrid Icon project of 2008, designed by artist David B. Dahlquist of RDG Dahlquist Art Studio
