On the West Springfield Commomn an eternal flame burns in memory of those who perished on 9/11 and specifically for Melissa Harrington Hughes, a West Springfield native who died in the attack on the World Trade Center.

An eternal flame burns on top of a polished stone pedestal. At the base, each of the four sides contains a plaque. It was dedicated on 9/11/2003.
